Self-care can be as easy as noticing how you breathe
We often push self-care to the side because there are so many other things we feel we need to do. Add in the stress of the current situation in the world, and you might find it even harder to practice good self-care.
My goal in this blog is to offer bite-sized pieces of self-care and stress management tips to nurture your mind, body and spirit. I will share suggestions for simple things you can easily incorporate into your daily life to help you create habits that enhance your well-being.
You will discover easy stress management tools, the importance of eating well, moving your body, and enjoying restful sleep. You will learn about the power of your thoughts, using your imagination, mindfulness to enhance your well-being, and so much more.
Self-care is not a selfish activity
Sometimes people confuse the words “self-care” and “selfish.” It is not selfish to practice good self-care. You absolutely need to take care of yourself so you can do whatever it is that you do.
It is an unprecedented and uncertain time for all of us. We are dealing with the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, loss of lives, unemployment and fear. The world needs healing, hope, and some good energy.
Today I want you to pay attention to your breathing. It’s not something extra you have to do. Just being and doing nothing except breathing is great self-care! Do you pay attention to your breathing? How often do you just notice the feeling of air coming in and leaving? This simple little thing can make a difference.
You action step for today is to just breathe, and notice how you breathe. We tend to breathe more shallowly when we are feeling stressed. Do you find yourself sighing often? Are you breathing with your chest or breathing with your belly?
Sit for a minute or so and just pay attention. Notice what it feels like when air comes in. Does it go all the way down to your belly? Notice the air going out. We will talk more about using your breath and mindfulness next time.
Wishing you health, happiness and abundance!
